Regulatory signs tell road users what they MUST or MUST NOT do. Disobeying a regulatory sign is a serious criminal road traffic offence.
Two Main Types of Regulatory Signs:
- Prohibitory Signs (Red Circles): Tell you what is strictly forbidden.
- No Entry: Red circle with white horizontal bar.
- No U-Turn: Red circle with crossed-out U-turn arrow.
- No Overtaking: Red circle showing two cars side-by-side.
- Speed Limit: Black number inside a red border circle.
- Mandatory Command Signs (Blue Circles): Tell you actions you must execute (e.g. Keep Left, Turn Left Only, Minimum Speed).
Special Shapes:
- STOP Sign: 8-sided red octagon. Requires an absolute full stop where wheels completely cease turning behind the stop line.
- YIELD Sign: Downward-pointing triangle with red border. Requires you to give right of way to all oncoming/intersecting vehicles.
